Science Class Expectations
Class Objectives:
1. Be in your seat when the bell rings.
2. Let one person talk at a time.
3. Treat everyone with respect.
Materials needed for class:
1) Three-pronged folder:
a. Hopefully, you have already purchased four three-pronged folders with side pockets.
b. Only your first and last name, the period you meet, and the name of this class (Earth or Life Science), should be printed neatly on the cover.
2) Notebook paper with three holes for notes.
3) 4-Pencils or Pens (Dark Blue or Black Ink)
4) 4-Red Pens for checking
5) 4-Highlighters
6) Calculator with large keys as we frequently do arithmetic functions in class.
7) Large Book Cover- Books need to be covered at all times.
8) Bring the following to class each period: your book, notebook paper, Student Planner, your folder containing your notes and handouts, calculator, and a pens or pencil.
9) Substitute teachers will be shown the same respect as any other classroom teacher. If the substitute teacher reports any problems, the student(s) reported will receive an automatic detention of 1-hour minimum.
Grades are based on:
1) Heading your papers correctly: Name-(First & Last)-5%, Date-1%, & Period-1%.
Additionally: Spelling Errors-1%, and Complete Sentences-1%.
2) Folder-includes, in this order:
Notes, Worksheets, Labs, Quizzes, Review Sheets, Test Review, Chapter Review, (Anything Extra)
3) All daily assignments given. There will be some “responsibility assignments” that will ask you to take a paper or a grade sheet home and return it by a certain date.
4) Each quarter Daily Grades will be weighted 60% with Test accounting for 40% of the total grade.
Extra Credit
1) Any student that conscientiously hands in his/her assignment every day will receive extra credit at the end of the each quarter.
2) Other opportunities to earn extra credit may be offered during the quarter, but not often, so you really need to do well on all your assignments during the quarter. All extra credit will be earned during the first eight weeks of the quarter.
7th & 8th Grade Science Fair:
Each student will do a science fair project that will be evaluated and graded. You will receive a schedule of individual science fair assignments that will break down your project into manageable parts.
Assignments:
1) Short Term-given daily
2) Long Term-will be assigned and it will be your responsibility to complete it on the due date.
Goals:
In school, as in life, you usually get what you aim for, so aim high!!!!!!
